A Divine “Spiritual Pecking Order”
Romans 13:1 (KJB) Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
This scripture verse gives no room for any man to pay heed to any other authority other than that which God has divinely established. Yes, there is such a thing as absolute authority. It is found both in this world and forever in the eternal realm.
However, there is a crisis of absolute authority at work in our nation and in this world at large. Just like in the ancient times in which Joshua lived, or the times of Lot, or in the times of Noah, many people desired to do as they pleased and be their own authority rather than living to satisfy God who is the ultimate and absolute authority.
People desire to be their own authority rather than allowing God to give proper and pleasing direction for their life.
“Let every soul be subject…” this is quite clear, God intends for every man, woman, and child to be subject to the authority He divinely places over them. His authority is not random, or fluctuates with contrary winds, or is without a higher purpose.
God has ultimate authority over every established governing or ruling body, leaders, teachers, or whatever authority one must face and be subject to.
All mankind is subject to the authority of God and His divinely established order:
Children are subject to the authority of their parents.
Wives are subject to their husband’s godly authority.
Husbands are subject to God’s authority.
Citizens are subject to kings and governing powers of nations.
Yes, there is a “spiritual pecking order” or an expected submission standard towards proper godly authority. Ultimately everyone will give an answer to God for their use, or abuse of power, and their willingness for obedience to God’s will and direction for their life.
