A Lost Temper Oozes with Sin
James 1:19-20 (KJB) Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
Ohh, yes… a man left to himself always works himself up into a frenzy, a whirlwind of ungodliness. It takes the presence and power of God to keep a man from naturally following the wicked ways of his flesh.
Anger naturally has a way of whipping a man up into fury at breakneck speed.
Yes, a man always needs the presence and power of God to properly regard and handle what others say or do and to guard what comes out of his mouth and to keep any potential fire from boiling up and spewing out with a hatred welled up from deep inside their emotions. Anger is a tough emotion to control. It is at work in the passion of every man, woman, and child. It can easily rage out of control in a nanosecond and ramp up to become a huge problem as it spews its ugliness out into this world.
James is reminding us that we cannot rightly control our emotions and keep our anger in proper check without the power and presence of God at work in our heart and lives. We need to take a step back and allow God’s righteousness to affect us and keep our heart and emotions in a proper and godly spiritual check as we live and deal with others in this world.
