A Passion for Doctrine

A Passion for Doctrine

Up Close and Personal with the Apostle Paul Series

Romans 1:1 (KJB)   Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.

Undoubtedly the Apostle Paul was aligned with Truth of God and detached from the lies of this world.  Yes, as this verse from the opening line of the book of Romans states, he was aligned with Jesus Christ and preaching sound doctrine.  Paul had a passion for life-changing Truth as was recorded in ancient times and vital for our spiritual learning and application today.

The Apostle Paul penned profound theological scripture given by inspiration of God.  It is not light and fluffy icing but a sound theological foundation which is vital learning for every sincere child of God.  This doctrine serves to introduce lifesaving eternal truths to open the hearts and minds of willing people who desire to know, savor, and serve Jesus Christ personally.  Following Christ today is not about following every jot of the law (which is impossible) or offering sacrifice for sin, for neither is possible or necessary.  Following Christ is to share in Paul’s passion for truths of God and His Son Jesus Christ and to apply these teachings to your life willingly.

Jesus Christ paved the way to heaven and eternal life by abolishing the power and presence of sin for all humankind.  Any person can personally know Jesus Christ through His unmerited gift of eternal life available for whosoever by placing faith in the finished work of His Son on the cross at Calvary (John 3:16.)

Paul passionately introduced New Testament doctrine, both indisputable and spiritually significant teaching, for filling every emptied heart.  The Apostle Paul parlays God’s message into fine bits and places it on the bottom shelf for any person from any walk of life to chew on, understand, and digest in their heart and mind.  Understanding these truths, with the presence of the Holy Spirit, will undoubtedly send the garbage taught in this world packing, allowing room for essential perpetual truths of God to fill emptied hearts and minds with a hefty spiritual dose of eternal health and hope.

Yes, it is true, then and today, understanding doctrine given of God which Paul passionately preached can take a lost man spiritually depleted and wandering on this earth, and make him spiritually alive.  Think a moment about the man from Gadarenes, his account can be found in (Luke 8:26-39).  This man went from great spiritual poverty to positional perfection in Jesus Christ immediately upon hearing and receiving Truth.

Indeed, you recognize that a man is not to desire to follow passionate preachers and servants.  Some hearts do believe in following a man of God, such as the Apostle Paul in recognizing only his New Testament Pauline doctrine, thereby subsequently ignoring other pertinent truths as presented in the entire canon of scripture.  This is endorsing a lopsided religion.

The goal for each of us is to personally identify with Jesus Christ who is present in both the New and Old Testament.  Any person who is willing to hear and receive God’s Truth through the teaching and preaching of a willing vessel such as the Apostle Paul, will stand in spiritual agreement with God having a heart condition changed by God.  He or she will have the Spirit’s indwelling presence, strength, a passion for truth, lasting joy, and perpetual peace.  This position is only possible when emptied of self and filled to overflowing with God’s supernatural power and presence with a hunger for serving and savoring God.
