A Pig Will Always Be a Pig
Proverbs 11:22 (KJB) As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
A gold nose ring on a lowly pig does not make it more attractive. It does nothing to make its appearance any more striking.
Pigs were sometimes fitted with a ring in ancient times for preventing them from rooting up the ground with their nose. This ring was not something elaborate and special, but a simply made cheap metal ring for a routine purpose rather than for any kind of adornment.
This verse contrasts a pig with a fair woman who exercises no discretion. Discretion is a valuable spiritual asset that allows a woman of God to make wise choices. This means she desires to make good choices for pleasing God. She wishes to serve and worship God with her life bringing Him honor and glory rather than calling attention to herself.
A woman who has no discretion is unable to make decisions based on the holy character of God for she does not personally have knowledge of Him at work in her heart. She is left to make choices according to her own desires and leading. Therefore, her own elections are not necessarily attractive to God. It is impossible to “be spiritually dressed” if a woman does not personally know God.
Godliness brings spiritual beauty from the inside out.
It is not possible to beautify an ordinary pig by placing a fancy gold ring in his snout. A pig will always be a pig.
