A Spiritual “About Face” Ignites an Eternal Flame
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. (2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV)
Godly sorrow agrees with God’s view of sin. It always accompanies or comes hand in hand with genuine repentance. True contrition always leads man in a godly direction increasing spiritual maturity and a focus upon things of an eternal nature.
Man who is content with having superficial sorrow, pangs of guilt, all the while feeding an unquenched desire for things of this world, is aligned with the ungodliness of this world. It is choosing to live like Lot’s wife, intently focused upon what one is leaving behind rather than eagerly anticipating fellowship with God now and for all eternity.
Godly sorrow brings a spiritual “about face” kindling a spark of new life alongside the presence of God in the heart for all eternity.
Pangs of guilt bring culpability and condemnation from the devil. This spiritual emptiness does not stimulate regeneration of life but allows death to settle in man’s heart now and for all eternity. The Presence of God always sparks new spiritual life.
