A Stirring Question And Answer
Jeremiah 46:15-16 (KJB) Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them. 16 He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.
God asked Jeremiah an inspiring question in this first verse: “Why are thy valiant men swept away?”
Perhaps this almost poetic query made Jeremiah pause for a long moment to consider both the question and the subsequent answer God provided.
These men did not stand because God caused them to fall.
They fell big time in a swift defeat. This battle was between forces of Egypt and forces of Babylon. God caused many Egyptian soldiers to fall in defeat. Or allowed them to flee the battle to return to their home because their sound defeat was quickly coming to pass.
Sometimes God keeps us standing upright and other times He allows us to fall flat on our face! God always knows what is best in the situation at hand in our life. One thing is for certain, the man and woman of God are never eternally defeated because God is always looking out for their best spiritual interests in every circumstance of their life.
Have you been “swept away” like these soldiers in a battle? Or perhaps God purposed you to stand “spiritually tall” in the middle of difficult circumstances. Whatever your situation, God warrants all the glory and honor as He continually directs and leads you through battles in this world!
