Are you Being “cold shouldered” For “Strange” Beliefs?
Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. (Hebrews 13:13-14 KJV)
“Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp…” means to be ostracized by others for your staunch beliefs. In the context of this verse it was Jewish friends and family who “cold shouldered” followers of Christ for their “strange” belief in things of God. Jewish believers chose to go outside the camp and away from their “so-called” friends and family, finding it necessary to separate both physically and spiritually from them, because of their widespread unbelief and ungodly lifestyle choices.
Spiritual separation had a personal cost, but it was necessary to move away from dwelling in sin and worldliness which was proliferating in the lives of those living inside the gate with a common ungodly mindset. Those who were busy living for things of this world were caught up in things tantalizing to their flesh and their emotions, rather than being caught up in things eternally centered in God.
The godly crowd gathered outside the gate and were separated unto spiritual stability in things of an eternal nature, rather than be subject to darkness and capitulation from many contrary evil winds blowing about inside the gate.
