At the Commandment of The Lord
Numbers 9:23 (KJB) At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
God led the Israelites by His commandments. First, they were opposed to hearing and applying God’s direction and correction through His servant Moses. This chosen indifference and disobedience to the will of God added years and great difficulty to their trek to the Promised Land.
The Israelites slowly learned through trials and troubles to patiently await the commandments of God for both their moving and for times of rest. They no longer chose to wander about of their own accord or direction in this dark world. They learned to hear and apply God’s teaching and to patiently wait for His direction and instruction for their life as they made slow progress towards the Promised Land.
God’s Word says in Proverbs chapter 3:5-6 that we are to wait on Him for direction for our steps. He does not tell us where to plant our every step, but offers a general godly direction to employ in our walk with Him. It is important to note that His instruction for us does not limit a man in any way, rather, He rewards and eternally profits the steps of a godly man.
Often, lost people see rules and regulations as a restraint and a limitation placed upon their life. God desires to lead us towards His light and away from the darkness of this world. He does this through commandments, instruction, and eternal direction just as He did for the Israelites as they headed towards the Promised Land.
