Believing Without Seeing
John 20:29 (KJB) Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
There are many doubting Thomas’s in this world who flat out refuse to acknowledge any truths about God, refusing to believe through faith God is who He said He is. There are indisputable and readily accessible signs God made available in nature since the beginning and truths eternally recorded in His Word.
Regrettably, in ancient history as well as today, it often takes an overwhelming miracle or movement to spiritually awaken people into the potential of believing things of Christ. The Apostle Paul had to be knocked to the ground before He could “see” God with his heart. The Apostle Thomas needed the opportunity to both look and feel inside the gaping wound Jesus Christ endured on the cross before he could put his belief into action.
In both instances, these men of God received irrefutable proof God was who He said He was.
Even today the spiritually lost or wayward “Thomas-like doubters” desire tangible proof. They want visual confirmation or “spiritual fireworks,” for substantiating God is really who He says He is.
However, we do not live in an age where new signs and wonders about God are offered because His record, including all prophecy, has been revealed and is complete. For those who genuinely desire to believe God is who He says He is, there is ample truth recorded both in nature and in His Word for verifying He is exactly who He claims to be.
Mankind does not need a special sign or a brilliant display of spiritual fireworks to recognize who God is. A man only needs to believe through the fuel of faith at work in his heart that God is The One and Only Eternal God.
