Calvary –Selfless Worship

Calvary –Selfless Worship

Yes, only God is worthy of our worship and honor. Worship is the spiritual practice of giving of your very best reverence and value to God.  In fact, worship is essential, or vital, in having a genuine personal relationship with God.  When one worships God he desires what God desires, he gives much consideration to godliness, and chooses to separate from things of this world, aliging with things which are holy, righteous, and true.

Did you know that Gen 22:5 is the first time the word Worship was mentioned in the Bible? Abraham and his son Isaac “went yonder” to find a quiet place to worship God.  Abraham must have been anxiously obedient about offering his son as a sacrifice and he chose to seek God in prayerful worship.

Jesus was willingly obedient and selfless in bringing honor and glory to God by freely offering Himself to fulfill the spiritual transaction of Calvary.

The Bible ends with elders giving great worship to God.

Revelation 4:9-11 (KJB)   And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,  10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,  11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour…” This verse is a glimpse into the future, as recorded by the Apostle John in the last book of the Bible, Revelation, which is the Revelation of God.  This book divinely speaks of angelic spiritual beings eternally worshipping and adoring God.  They are repeatedly giving God glory and honor as they cast their crowns before Him as He sits on the throne.

The Apostle Paul concludes about worshipping God in the book of Hebrews:

Hebrews 13:14-15 (KJB)   For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.  15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Worshipping God is a selfless act of reverence for God. It is never to be understood as a one-time, or multi-time event.  The true saints of God will reverence and adore God continuously and forever!  Worshipping God is selfless living.  It is dying to self and being spiritually raised up unto new spiritual life with Him.

The man and woman of God are spiritually crucified, buried, and resurrected with Christ before he or she can share in spiritual oneness inside a personal relationship with God.  Identifying intimately with God through the life and death of His Only Son who was resurrected unto eternal victory.  Recognizing this truth always naturally brings about selfless adoration for the holiness and righteousness of God.

Yes, the genuine professing child of God must have the supernatural power and presence of God alive and surging inside of Him!

The Apostle Paul describes selfless spiritual progression in the life of a genuine child of God:

Galatians 2:20-21 (KJB)   I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.  21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

What exactly is offering authentic and selfless worship to God?

First, let us consider that genuine WORSHIPPING IS NOT:

A “spiritual act or drama” or something that a person can “put on and take off” or “perform or parade about” for the sole purpose of lifting man up.

Worship does not take place inside a church building, even though many churches today call their service a “worship service.”  In fact, genuine worship is never limited by any building or any service.

Worship is never an inclination or feeling washing over a person because of his or her circumstances.

Worship is not whipped up by musically persuaded emotions.

This Psalm of David is a biblical example of encouragement of proper reverence and worship for God:

Psalm 29:1-2 (KJB)   A Psalm of David. Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.  2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

WORSHIP IS adoration and heartfelt love for God.

Worshipping God sits in direct opposition to idolatry and is a divine favor given to God rather than to any other thing found in this world.

The Bible tells us that mankind was divinely created to exist for the pleasure of God.  This means man should wholly worship and reverence Him rather than stirring up his own desires.  Doing so eliminates any importance of self and continually works to lift up the eternal value of God.

The Bible says:

Revelation 4:11 (KJB)   Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

It is conceivable for us to believe that every spiritual man and woman will spend every single moment of his or her time in heaven worshipping God in Spirit before His throne. Only true worshippers of God will be found in this genuine fellowship with God in the heavenly realm existing both in Truth and Spirit.

God promises He will swiftly turn away from or have no fellowship with anyone, who has falsely professed to worship Him choosing rather to exist far from Him saying:

Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB)   Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.  22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

There are many who claim to worship the one true God.  However, not everyone who professes to know Him publicly truly knows Him on a personal level.  Often words come easy and can be spoken without proper thought or in consideration of truth.  God always knows the condition of every man’s heart and is never fooled by unfettered words or actions of man.

Again. Please understand those who are involved in “Pseudo or Pretend Worship” of God will ultimately be denied fellowship with Him in the eternal realm.  This is precisely why it is so important for the genuine man and woman of God to discern exactly what is and what is not true worship while he or she sojourns on this earth.

God’s Word gives us insight into the prevalence of false worship by sharing details of the temptation and trials of worship faced by Jesus Christ for our learning and admonition as recorded for us in Luke 4:5-8.

Did you know that not having a personal relationship with God cannot be changed or rectified once a person physically dies and exists in the eternal realm?  All spiritual business must be taken care of while man exists in this world.  God provided the only pathway available for eternal salvation through the shed blood sacrifice.  This transaction was completed by His Only Son on the cross at Calvary for the sole purpose of spiritual profit and blessing of all mankind (1st Timothy 2:4) through the spiritual fuel of faith.

Eternal fellowship with God boils down to a matter of possessing eternal spiritual life or being separated from God and facing spiritual death forevermore!

God is comprised of many spiritual facets including The God of Creation, The God of Heaven, The God of divine the birth of Jesus Christ, The God of Divine Redemption, The God of Calvary, and The God of eternity.  A person cannot individually pick and choose from numerous “spiritual slices” of God. Or pick and choose His attributes like feasting from a “spiritual smorgasbord.” Mankind cannot choose only what parts he desires to recognize, serve, and worship of God.

God is ultimately the divine sum of all His spiritual fruit!  He is a “take all or nothing” God!  Mankind either has a full-fledged personal relationship with God or has no relationship with Him whatsoever.

To love and worship God is to personally know and recognize the totality of His spiritual attributes.  For example, mankind must intimately identify with the God of Redemption to understand the significance of the spiritual transaction accomplished on Calvary.  By personally choosing to apply His shed blood sacrifice through faith removes, or consecrates, the natural state of sin at work in our heart. Without this knowledge and understanding and having a “spiritual whitewash”, applying the spiritual transaction of Calvary has no significance.  Nothing else in this world can remove sin or change the inner heart condition of a lost man or provide an eternal pathway to fellowship with God forever.

When mankind can view the “big spiritual picture” through the holy lens of God effectively seeing the sum of His holy character, the regenerated man innately desires to naturally worship and serve God.

Jesus Christ taught to the woman caught in adultery He divinely met at the well about genuine worship saying:

John 4:23-24 (KJB)   But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.  24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Jesus Christ’s clear message to this woman, whose life was uprooted by personally meeting Jesus, was that the “where” of worshipping God was not as important as the “why” attitude and inward condition of the worshipper’s heart.  True worship is generated in the heart of mankind and works its way outward in the lives of every regenerated man and woman of Christ.

True worship is never an inward only presence of spiritual fruit, it does not depend upon one’s circumstances or his material substance in this world.  True worship in the heart of this adulterous women sent her off instantly at a run to tell others about this man Jesus she had just personally met!

True worship changes lives, both inwardly and outwardly, and is spiritual fruit for sharing foremost with God and secondly with others.  True worship cannot ever be contained inside the heart and is always outwardly manifested in the lives of God’s spiritual family.  Worship is simply the attitude of one’s heart toward God. Man’s heart either agrees with God or stands in spiritual opposition to Him.

Satan always has a mock worship easily accessible for anyone who tries to walk along an alternate dark spiritual pathway found in this world.

Simply put: Worship commences with God; The Father, Son, and Spirit, who is present and supernaturally powerful at your personal spiritual death, burial, and resurrection. Your greatest eternal profit is the spiritual benefit of possessing eternal peace with God forever.

sincere worship is the inward entertaining of Truth of God and the accompanying outward act sharing of it with others.  Worship encompasses the inward attitude of love towards God along with resulting spiritual action towards others through the sowing and harvest of spiritual fruit along His narrow pathway.

Worship is centered on God and tendered lovingly offered to others for the sole purpose of bringing honor and glory to Him.  True worship is never an act of finding great pleasure in any of our own desires.  The unregenerate man’s desires can often be found wrapped in worldly things including celebrities, political figures, sports stars, or other prominent people or events elevated above that of the importance of the holy nature of Christ.  Preference for worshipping others, instead of God, is making a choice to indulge in wayward or ungodly reverence focused on idols and images rather than upon the divine supernatural nature of God.

Worship is and forever will be genuine adoration for things of God rather than for esteeming people and material things found in this world.

Did you know that the saints of God in the eternal realm spend their every moment adoring and worshipping God as He sits upon the heavenly throne?  Sadly, many people fail to worship Him even for a few moments each day while sojourning on this earth.  Mankind will never get back any wasted moments to live them over for honoring God ever again.

If a man cannot worship God while on this earth why would he or she desire to fellowship with God and adore Him forever in the eternal realm?

Sincere worship of God while yet living on this earth is living a Galatians 2:20 life.

Galatians 2:20 (KJB)   I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Do you know that even in the midst of great sin, as Jesus hung upon the cross, unregenerate men fell to the ground with their own brand of counterfeit worship for God?  Jesus at one point remarked that these men did not realize the spiritual desperation and the utter depth of their wickedness.

The Bible says:

Mark 15:19 (KJB)   And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

Did you know that there is spiritual beauty in truly worshipping God’s holiness?

Psalm 29:1-2 (KJB)   A Psalm of David. Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.  2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

A prayer for you:  I pray you will take a moment or two and visit the significance of Calvary and find encouragement in worshipping the one true God each day(Hebrews 12:28).  Please don’t resort to pushing Him to the “backburner of life” choosing only to revisit Him once a year during Easter time.

I pray you are daily being made more and more into His image becoming increasingly more spiritually beautiful with each passing day.  I pray His holiness is at work in your life like a “spiritual billboard,” highly useful in sowing seeds of His Truth as you sincerely worship and honor Him.
