Fire and Brimstone for an Example
2 Peter 2:6-9 (KJB) And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.
God can deliver any soul out of any such sordid condemnation and vexation of spirit.
There is no condition possible in this world too hard for the spiritual deliverance of God. Just as these verses illustrate, God divinely delivered Lot from a dark and desperate atmosphere of the sin of sodomy.
This fiery destruction of the great wickedness found in Sodom and Gomorrah is to serve as an example of God’s supernatural power and purpose forever. Please take note that God did not leave Lot spiritually wayward in wicked vexation taking a great toll on his soul, God delivered him from this spiritually sordid and sour situation.
God can do the same for any spiritually wayward soul today. Deliverance of God is different than God’s wrath and judgment of sin. God must judge sin, as was spectacularly done in this case of the sin of sodomy which surrounded Lot’s life in these ancient biblical times.
But, not only did God judge sin but he preserved Lot through His great mercy and grace.
The fiery display of God’s righteous fiery rant upon the utter wickedness found at work in Sodom and Gomorrah serves as a reminder to Lot and us today of God’s great mercy, preservation, and His necessary judgment upon sin.
