Foolish About Truth
Jeremiah 4:21-22 (KJB) How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet? 22 For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
The more you learn about doing right in God’s estimation the less you will desire to know about doing wrong. People often say and act out on what they know, even if it is bad. If you repeatedly feast upon the darkness in this world you will emit darkness out of your heart. However, if you continually practice feasting on the light of God it will brilliantly shine through all your fissures and faults and ultimately point to God.
God is probably shaking His head in these verses because He is watching and listening to people who verbally claim to know Him, but in their daily practice have no working understanding or knowledge of Him or His way. You cannot speak loosely of having a relationship with God and choose to act like the devil expecting God to accept your wicked behavior in the long term.
Godly knowledge always produces right living (Romans 12:21). While darkness always ushers in darkness and evil acts. There is no seat bracing the middle ground allowing for a man to place one foot in each world.
