God Does Give Second Chances
And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. (Jonah 3:1-2 KJV)
God gave Jonah a second opportunity for preaching to the Gentiles. Many of you are intimately familiar with the story of Jonah and already know Jonah chose the first time he was given this directive to run away rather than obediently reaching the Gentiles living in Nineveh.
Jonah ran away from this command of God. He ran straight into many adverse trials and difficulties.
Jonah repented, no longer desiring to have his own way and he returned to humbly to follow the will of God upon his life. Jonah was ready to follow the specific spiritual pathway God carved out for him in Nineveh after facing the heat and humbling of God’s refining fire.
Most of us can look back in our past to times when God graciously extended us a second chance in life. Man faces spiritual battles when God gives him “marching orders.” Sometimes man gives pause to gain God’s spiritual momentum and at other times he may choose to run away from God when the avenue seems to be a difficult uphill challenge.
Maybe God has given you a second chance, a “Jonah moment.” An opportunity to face a battle for round two and you “taste” a sweet victory the second time around. Or maybe He is calling to you to turn around and face the opportunity He waiting right in front of you!
