God’s Measuring Stick
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? (Matthew 18:1 KJV)
Many modern disciples ask this same question: Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven…?
Many think the spiritual hierarchy of God is modeled similar to the mechanics incorporated in the “ladder of success” at work in this world. Many people anticipate a greater value given to those who put out more effort. Devotion to a career or a great work ethic may give mankind a feeling of success in this world but will gain nothing of an eternal nature.
God’s ways are not like man’s ways. God’s system of spiritual elevation comes from man spending time on his knees with lowliness of heart rather than self-importance and an attitude of reaching for the stars.
Humbleness of man towards the authority of God will usher him into greater spiritual position both now and in God’s eternal kingdom. Lifting oneself up will result in hindered or no fellowship with God on this earth and potentially an existence without God for all eternity.
