How Do You Stack Up?
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. (2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV)
God always sets the perfect plumb line or standard of measurement for mankind both in this world and for all eternity.
Mankind likes to use many worldly standards to measure his own accomplishments. Mankind often likes to regard himself against the lives of others. He compares another’s achievements against his own triumphs as perceived through his own vision. This is in effect lifting himself up because of great accomplishments he has attained through his own skill and effort. His mountaintop moments always seem greater, or to be of a higher standard or level, than that achieved by any other person around him.
This verse fosters the unchangeable truth that God is the standard by which we must measure and judge ourselves.
Looking at God’s perfect example always serves to knock mankind down several pegs as he sees where he stands in regard to God’s holiness and standard of absolute perfection.
