How to Effectively Study God’s Word

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJB)   Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The Best Way to Study and become familiar with God’s Word is to read it, allow it to travel downward from your head to your heart, and choose to aptly engage it in your life.  Image if every man and woman of God would take God’s Word to heart and apply it the atmosphere in this world would be totally different!

Certainly, you understand God desires that you and I study His Word.  Not only should we study and fill our ourselves with “head knowledge,” but God desires for all mankind to gain personal heart recognition of things spiritual through the divine power of God.

It is reasonable to conclude that if there is a right way to divide scripture as indicated in 2 Timothy 2:15 above, then there is also a wrong division found in unscriptural teachings. Only when you know the Truth can you filter out false teaching.

However, if man stuffs his mind with knowledge of God’s Word and fails to spiritually absorb it in his heart or allow it to work in his life, he ends up with mere facts and information about God but does not know Him personally.

Mankind can enjoy a spiritual relationship with God now and for all eternity.

In a nutshell, that is what studying, learning, and putting action into the Truth we find in God’s Word is all about, knowing God personally and telling others about His free offer of eternal salvation!

It is important the child of God allows ample time each day for Bible study.  God gave us instruction in many verses regarding studying His Word including these two verses:

Psalm 119:11 (KJB)   Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Colossians 3:16 (KJB)   Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

A daily reading plan is a good start for beginning this habit in your life.  Doing so will promote a closer relationship with God, promote spiritual growth, and encourage maturity. The more time you allow for studying scripture the more you can apply His Word as you sojourn in this world.

It is good to allow scripture to interpret scripture.  You can read and follow scripture in more depth and thoughts, words, and truths “jump” out, you can flip to other similar passages.  Studying one passage will inevitably point you to many other verses containing the same teaching found throughout the canon of scripture.  This practice will reveal many truths and assist in ease of verse recall by building scripture upon scripture in your heart and mind.

Seek to spend some time with God today and every day for reading and studying His Word!  Your life will never be the same in this world and for all eternity for there will be no shame or regret!
