Is The “Rod of Correction” Swung in Your House?
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. (Proverbs 29:15 KJV)
Children both need, and inwardly desire, authority and boundaries laid down in their lives. It is necessary children have an intimate knowledge of the authority and reproof of God, and secondly to answer to the godly authority and correction of their parents, followed last by teachers and other leaders all necessary in raising up the next generation to revere and fear of the truth of God’s Word.
Too many parents desire to be friends and allies with kids today, rather than standing strong as an authority figure and leader in this important time in their lives. Today many parents are absent, busy, or sidetracked when it comes to modeling and teaching proper discipline to their children. Sometimes it is kids raising kids in this world.
Today this world is raising a generation who are not accustomed to following authority, set boundaries, or rules, except those which they have set leniently for themselves. Public schools are often overwhelmed with the undisciplined nature of both parents and youth today.
Many of our youth today are greatly disruptive, rude, and radical, and far removed from the gentle but firm nature of God. The responsibility lies heavily upon parents who have ultimately let their children run the household rather than taking the proper place of authority in their own home.
