Paul Faced Rebellion
1 Corinthians 9:1-2 (KJB) Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord? 2 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
These verses show that Paul was hounded about the authority of his ministry by a few rebellious and insinuating members of the Corinthian Church. These men were not a representative of the entire church but were characterized a defiant faction, not choosing to embrace either God or Paul’s divinely given authority.
Certainly, this was an insult foremost to God and as well the ministry of the apostle Paul. Paul was divinely chosen by God to carry out His authority and ministry to a needy mankind, sharing it through his missionary work and preaching including in this Corinthian Church. Even today there are some people who elect to forgo any leadership, teaching, and precepts of God, choosing rather to be led by their own authority being aligned with the god of this world rather than the truths of God.
Paul instantly defended his message and authority to a disobedient faction at work in the Corinthian church by making clear his message was both proper and only possible through divine inspiration of God at work in his life.
