Prayers for All Men
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (KJB) I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Paul is teaching Timothy in these verses about the importance of prayer. This learning is not focused just on the life of his young friend Timothy, but Paul’s teaching about prayer is meant to be a priority applied in the lives, invoked for those in authority over us, and found in the works of children of God.
For many today, prayer is an opportunity to give God a list of our needs and desires rather than for us to listen to Him, or for the privilege of praying for others. Prayers, including all types mentioned in these verses, are of great importance for every man and woman of God.
There are four types of prayers mentioned in these verses: Supplications, prayer, intercessions, and the giving of thanks.
Living, praying, and walking in a godly spiritual direction requires a love for God and others which are fueled by a hearty prayer life to God in the pastor’s heart, and at work in the hearts of his congregation. Invoking God’s presence, power, purpose, and direction as they enjoin in ministering to others, both inside and outside the church will swell with spiritual seeds planted allowing for God to water and mature according to His will and way.
