Psalms Are Musical Prayers to God
Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. (Psalm 89:1-2 KJV)
God’s faithfulness will forever be established in heaven. This Psalm is a song of Prayer sung by a man named Ethan the Ezrahite. Little personal is known of this godly man other than he was a musician likely alive in the time of David in ancient biblical times.
This Psalm recalls the covenant promises God made with David. This man is praying and pleading with God mentioning His great mercy in the heavens. He is pointing out the obedience and faithfulness of the generations before him to this time in which he lived. This man is pleading for God’s mercy in the current turmoil at hand.
This Psalm was sung with expectation and joy in the midst of a national tragedy in the making for the people of Israel who are pleading and begging for God’s great eternal mercy and deliverance.
