Salvation Is an Inside Job Which Always Produces Fruit
Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. (Romans 4:4-5 KJV)
Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. (James 2:24 KJV)
These two verses seem to be in opposition to each other. They are both New Testament verses which were both inspired of God and revealed in His Word. One verse seems to be encouraging faith alone, while the other encourages works plus faith. That is, until a person studies the context of each verse to understand how they work together to compliment God’s Word as a whole.
One verse is speaking of faith alone for salvation (Romans 4:4-5). While the other verse speaks of works generated by salvation (James 2:24). These scripture verses together can be rightly divided. Salvation does come through faith alone. Salvation produces two things in a regenerated person’s life: genuine repentance and spiritual works.
A person with genuine salvation always produces spiritual fruit.
A person with a false profession of faith in God produces only spoiled rotten fruit of the god of this world.
