Spiritually Receptive to God’s Word
But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. (Matthew 13:16 KJV)
Do you realize not all who pick up the Bible can understand it? It is like an English speaking American trying to read a book printed in Chinese. Or a person fluent in Spanish trying to decipher something written or spoken in the German language.
There is a language barrier which exists between man and any written or spoken word different than his native tongue. Mankind must study languages and words not naturally familiar to his eyes and ears to be able to communicate with others of a different dialect.
Likewise, the Bible must be familiar with its wisdom, commandments, and spiritual direction can be applied to life. Its message can only be spiritually discerned. Spiritual discernment means it takes the supernatural power of God working in us and through us to supernaturally recognize the Word of God. The natural power in man can do nothing to read and retain the message written in God’s Word in his own strength.
What does this mean?
Mankind can only understand God’s Word by being enabled through the Spirit of God who is invited to dwell spiritually alive inside man’s heart. Without the presence and supernatural power of God living and working inside man, the words contained in the Bible are not distinguished or set aside allowing the Spirit of God to move and work through them.
Reading and understanding God’s Word is a blessing from God.
Receiving the supernatural power of God in the heart allows God’s Word to be seen and heard and work for all eternity in the regenerated man’s life. Without the power of God mankind is dead in his sin because his heart remains eternally dormant.
