Are you a spiritual time bomb?
They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips. (Psalms 106:32-33 KJV)
The Israelites, whom Moses was leading to the Promised Land, had provoked him more than once with their whining and complaining in the midst of this long and often arduous journey. Moses had heard many murmurs and complaints about no water, food, and lack of provision on this journey. The Israelite’s were focusing upon self and not upon God who had supernaturally met their needs; including shoes that did not wear out and guidance in the sky both day and night for their safe passage through this unknown land.
The Israelite’s were being tested by God through their needs and had failed His testing more than once. Instead of looking to God for their needs or being satisfied with provisions God had already given them they continued to whine and bemoan their circumstances. Even wishing they were back in Egypt thinking they had been lead away to their certain death.
Moses had heard all the complaining he could take; failing this test as well himself. Instead of reacting to the Israelite’s complaints in a godly manner Moses reacted according to his contentious flesh. We have all been in a situation like this in life. Anger boils inside of us unchecked, instead of calming down we become more and more incensed; allowing bitterness to take root in our heart and explode from within us as our anger boils over. Moses did and said some ungodly things because he allowed his anger to flare up in a sinful fit most unbecoming to God in both word and deeds. Moses was not able to enter the Promised Land because of this ugly flare up; reacting to the Israelite’s insistent murmuring in a way not pleasing to God.
Other people’s sin can cause us to be angry with sin simmering inside of us to the point of detonation; causing us to sin greatly as well. Our sin, big or small, always affects other people’s lives around us.
