Jesus faced rejection on this earth even from those closest to Him.
Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (Matthew 13:55-58 KJV)
Jesus had just finished giving a sermon to a large crowd of people. Many were familiar with Him as well as His extended family. This area was where Jesus had grown up. Many in the crowd, however, were not as familiar with the truths Jesus preached. They were skeptical of His message as spiritual truths were not familiar to them; especially coming from a “home town boy.”
Often this is the case for those who dare witness or preach to others they are familiar with about the gospel of Christ. People you grew up with or immediate family members are often the hardest audience to speak to of the gospel of Christ. Those that are most familiar with you over a period of years will be the biggest critics.
Take heart Jesus understands what it is like to have the gospel message rejected. The Bible tells us:
He came unto his own, and his own received him not. (John 1:11 KJV)
His message was rejected by friends.
His message was rejected by family.
His message was rejected by the Jewish people.
His message was rejected by governing officials and leaders.
Often the Truth of His Word is met with willful with rejection, suppression, and ignorance but there are some who hear the message and receive it willingly with spiritually open ears and eyes.
Our spiritual business for God is to get the gospel message out to those who cross our path in life as opportunities avail. Often it is not the first time the truth is heard that it will soften a heart and take root. Over time as the message is heard repeatedly it begins to chip away at the hardened heart softening the outer crust of accumulated sin and allowing the lifesaving love message of God to soak into the cracks and crevices of the softened heart.
Some who rejected Jesus’s message the first time they heard it eventually came to personally understand the Truth. The supernatural power of the Gospel message can reach the unreachable never give up on the supernatural power of God!
