Does spiritually refreshing conversation flow from your lips?
The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. (Proverbs 18:4 KJV)
I am sure you have heard sayings such as “talk is cheap” or “words are a weapon” indicating there is a power source attached to words flowing from our lips and that some words can heal and others hurt those who partake of or digest them into their ears and mind. Words do have an effect upon one’s mindset and heart. God’s Words are the ultimate power source we can tap into.
This scripture verse is describing words that are like soft “music to the ears” Words that stream gently, full of wisdom, and flow delicately from one’s mouth to another’s ears, and are filled with good not hollow words and darkness that eats away, like a spiritual cancer, at those who hear them. This verse is describing words that are refreshing and spiritually in tune with the perfect nature of God; not lined up with the dark nature of the god of this world.
A flowing brook paints a picture in my mind of words that are peaceful and serene. It is an illustration of words that are used diplomatically; not employed as verbal weapons for the purpose of tearing another apart and wounding them deeply inwardly. Words are a mirror or reflection of our inner heart and spiritual temperature and the very essence or nature residing within us. Deep waters and shallow brooks are often naturally cold brisk water which is refreshing to those who partake of it. Like a cold drink on a hot and humid summer day.
