Today you can personally approach God through faith.
And they made upon the hems of the robe pomegranates of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and twined linen. And they made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates upon the hem of the robe, round about between the pomegranates; A bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, round about the hem of the robe to minister in; as the LORD commanded Moses. (Exodus 39:24-26 KJV)
God was very specific about the manner in which the priest could approach Him. A lay person or ordinary worker could not approach the holiest of holy places inside the tabernacle in the Old Testament. The inner tabernacle was a holy place of which only a priest could enter once a year and approach God with offerings and sacrifices on behalf of mankind.
The priest could not leisurely or casually approach the throne of God but had been given very specific instructions for doing so; even down to precisely made clothes per instructions by God. In these few scripture verses God called for bells and pomegranates to be sewn around the bottom hem of the priest’s holy garment. This was only a small portion of details in Exodus spelling out precisely what God required of the priest to wear as he approached His throne.
Today man can approach God through personally placing faith in the finished work of His Son Jesus Christ rather than following a stringent set of rules and rituals or having a priest as a mediator between he and God.
