Imagine if mankind all spoke the same language or dialect today.
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. (Genesis 11:1 KJV)
There are many languages in use upon this earth today. Some languages are used widespread by many; English, Spanish, French, or German for example. Other languages or dialects are a native to a small group or handful of people not familiar to other people.
In ancient times starting with Adam and moving forward all ancient people knew and used one language to communicate. There is no certain language mentioned in the Bible as being the “original language.” Many believe that the native language could have been Hebrew but that is a conclusion that is not supported by any biblical recording in scripture.
Verbal communication is important for mankind to converse with and understand one another. God originally created man to communicate in just one language. Then things in this world began to change as mankind became more self-reliant and built the Tower of Babel. This tower was an idol to reach God in Heaven by the works of man according to false religion and God was not pleased.
God introduced many languages into the world to confuse the speech of all people. This served to divide the people by a language they could understand and speak; further separating them into groups or tribes according how they could communicate with one another as they spread out in this world.
While man at most can speak a few languages proficiently it is amazing to note that God can communicate with all men in any language which is native to them. God hears prayers in any language.
