God calls us to love fervently seasoned in truth with an enormous helping of His grace.
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8 KJV)
Charity is a strong and forceful sounding word meaning love. Fervent charity is that brotherly and sisterly agape love which is unconditional or not limited; rather it is strong and vibrant and readily available to use in covering the ugliness marred by sin. Let’s face it sin is ugly and dark and leaves telltale marks. It takes a fervent love, an unending love, to cover over a multitude of sin.
Love that has limitations or conditions placed upon it is love that is insufficient to cover the ugliness of sin. Man must model Christ-likeness including unconditional love to another who is caught in a myriad of sinful behavior and habits. No other form of pseudo love will faithfully serve the Truth of God to a person who desperately needs it.
Brothers and sisters in Christ should be united in this deep love willing to look beyond the sin to see the face of God at work in the situation and armed with hope and encouragement to help in the day to day walk of the believer. It often serves a man well to remember and consider the deep pit of sin that God removed them from setting them upon a new foundation bringing about new life covered in the shed blood of the greatest example of unconditional love ever; Jesus Christ’s finished work on the cross.
Love your brothers and sisters in Christ with fervent love as they walk along the narrow pathway maturing spiritually rather than insisting upon murmuring and tearing one another apart inhibiting any growth potential in their spiritual life.
