Falling for temptation to sin is a choice man makes.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. (James 1:13-14 KJV)
Evil temptation never comes from God. It boils to the surface of our flesh and is acted upon, or followed through by man, who is operating according to his sinful nature rather than the spiritual nature of God.
Yes, temptation is a choice that satan flashes before mankind as a “neon lighted opportunity” positioned right in our face, calling out to us, and persuading us that this opportunity set before us is something we cannot live without having, doing, or consuming. Temptation is always rooted in the god of this world who cleverly disguises bleak and dark sinful prospects to appear as shiny jewels and rare opportunities to get our attention.
Man is drawn away into temptation as his own lust becomes more important than anything holy and righteous God has prepared for him. Man often falls head first into the trap satan has keenly laid for him unless he exercises spiritual discernment of God at work in his heart to better discern clever tricks of satan.
Man operating alone, without the presence of God, cannot be victorious against the temptations of satan.
God’s Word says: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 KJV)
