Are you sitting on the fence?
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. (James 4:4 KJV)
There is no proverbial “sitting on the fence” with God. This world is bifurcated, or divided, since Adam’s fall into two existing camps: light and darkness; one camp exists with God the other is in enmity against the things of God. There are no gray areas or middle ground where a person can stand or hover between the two; with one foot standing in darkness and the other standing in light.
God clearly states that choosing sides by striking up a friendly relationship or co-existence with the things of the god of this world is living in enmity to the things of God. If a person elects to live within the parameters of the god of this world they cannot also truly profess to live according to God’s will and way. A double standard or speaking from both sides of their mouth will always line up with darkness; living with God always works to separate mankind from the ways of the world through sanctification from God.
Our profession truly matches the inner condition of our heart which is seen only by God. Our heart is the center, or command center, of our will; controlling everything about our life from the inside out. Whatever condition is inside man’s heart naturally works its way outwardly as we live and exist in this world on our journey to eternity.
The spiritual heart condition of man harbors the true state of a man’s spiritual condition and the Bible implores us to diligently guard our heart:
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (Proverbs 4:23 KJV)
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20 KJV)
Living crucified with Christ is not holding hands with the god of this world. If a man’s heart is in spiritual turmoil; heading in opposite directions inwardly; his outer life will reflect accordingly.
