Are you trying to mix oil and water?
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14 KJV)
This verse speaks of important doctrine that many have trouble understanding; in biblical times and today. Paul used common or ordinary yoked animals as an illustration in learning this important truth. Those who do much farming would certainly understand what problems would surface if they yoked or harnessed together two very different farm animals to do a job of plowing a field preparing it for seed. If a cow and a horse were brought together to prepare the field problems arise. One of the animals would be physically taller and stronger and more prepared for this type of work than the other. The cow being much shorter not a physical worker of the field would bring to an abrupt stop the whole plowing process. The horse would stand taller and readily able to pull the weight required to move the farm implements through the ground.
The same thing happens when men and women of God align themselves together with an unequal yoke in a spiritual realm. Unequal yokes do exist in a marriage, a job or profession, work related relationships, family and even friendships. Digging into this verse highlights truth beyond the issue of an unequally paired alignment; the communion together of light and darkness. Light and darkness never have communion for they naturally exist at the opposite ends of the spiritual spectrum. One element is upon the narrow and godly illuminated pathway and the other, darkness, upon a wider pathway. God can have nothing to do with darkness because He is light.
There are many today who try to align or band together false teachers worshipping idols and works with true belief in the one and only God; an umbrella of sorts to suit the tastes of many diverse belief systems blended together into one uniform religion all men can believe in collectively. That is like mixing water and oil; it never combines or mixes together.
Elijah faced many who turned from God to worship Baal and understood that he could not be found in harmony with any who called unto a false god.
And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. (1 Kings 18:21 KJV)
Doing the work of God requires separation. A man cannot sow seeds of the gospel of Truth when closely associated with workers sowing a false religion. Elijah understood this truth. He challenged a large crowd of people about him who chose to worship Baal to put their belief in Baal to the test against God. This put the people on the spot to prove their god was a true god or that he was a false god. Baal was unquestionably proven false when placed against the Truth of God.
Aligning together with any other teaching, precept, or religious system or works under the guise of diversity in one accord can be very detrimental. All false beliefs will be proven false when appropriately lined up to the truth of God’s Word. It is important know God’s Word and keep it written it upon the heart.
Do your beliefs line up with the god of this world or The God of Heaven? Gleaning knowledge from the Bible can prove what precepts are Truth from God and what teaching and associations are false leading away from His narrow pathway.
