Have you feasted at His banquet table?
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (Psalms 23:5 KJV)
David was pronouncing, at God’s leading, in this verse how superbly God provides for His own; even in the presence of enemies. He provides much more than we can even imagine or expect. Indeed His provision is much more than we ever deserve; if we got what we deserved we would be amid the flames burning in Hell for all eternity without the presence of God.
He provides an ever- present spiritual presence among His own spiritual family upon this earth and a great spiritual banquet to feast upon for all eternity. He works through us and in us to satisfy our dry and thirsty soul now; and forever more until we are spilling over with His goodness, mercy, and grace.
The Bible describes this great volume or outpouring of His great mercy and grace for us in this way:
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, (Ephesians 3:20 KJV)
David had enemies. You and I have enemies. Anyone who lives consistently for the things of God has real enemies about them on all sides upon this earth. Anyone who chooses to live in enmity to the things of God must exist outside His holy fortification and immense grace. a person who chooses to live for self, instead of the things of God, lives life in the dark and their existence is in sharp contrast to the light of God’s Word and the lives of those who choose to pick up their cross daily living for Him. The Shepherd protects His own sheep as God protects and guide His own spiritual family; both natural born Jews and His spiritually adopted family; anointing them with His oil to overflowing capacity.
God directs and guides His own family from banquet table to banquet table for spiritual feasts and to showers of blessings and joy as we follow His will for our life. Often the blessings are inward blessings and not outward manifestations man can see and touch because our faith rests on the unseen this side of Heaven. His joy bubbles from within our heart and overflows outside of us.
It is good to reflect and contemplate upon the many blessings and joy God has bestowed upon you and I while living upon this earth and to anticipate many blessings He has waiting for us in heaven as we live for all eternity in His presence.
