The Spiritual Order of Marriage
Genesis 2:23-24 (KJB) And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
God did not choose to form both man and woman without reason or void of an eternal order. Both were divinely created with a purpose of having a lasting relationship. The man was created first and later woman was fashioned from man.
The spiritual order of God is important to understand. Woman was created after man and with the purpose of being a helpmeet to him. Woman was not created to be an equal partner or to reside a “step above” that of man. God’s order is a foundation or spiritual building block on which all other relational issues are to be placed. A woman was made to naturally look up to God and man.
Just like in the construction of a house if the foundation is not sturdy the house will eventually fall. A marital relationship is built between God, a man, and a woman for greatest spiritual stability and endurance. A godly marriage must be constructed with God at the head as it was in the beginning with the relationship of Adam and Eve.
Each spouse is to look to God, to their spouses second, together viewing and applying the precepts and commandments of God. Neither spouse should entertain an intimate look to another person existing outside of this “spiritual relationship triangle” for continued relational strength and protection.
A marriage is a relationship with a man and a woman who divinely become one flesh with God at the head. A three-cord relationship is not easily frayed or broken. That is why a woman leaves her family and cleaves to her husband, otherwise the relationship is stretched outward to unspiritual proportions and can then be easily broken.
