What About Your Profession?
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (Matthew 15:7-9 KJV)
Jesus called this group of worshipping lightweight’s hypocrites. They professed to know God but their lackluster spiritual itinerary did not operate according to God’s Word. They followed after beliefs and doctrine of man rather than the Truth of God’s Word. Their profession of a relationship with God was flat, pointless, and eternally powerless.
God knows the inner condition of each man’s heart; whether he is spiritually ill or eternally healthy and filled with an eternal hope which sees beyond their existence on this earth. God knows when a person’s speech lines up with the condition of the heart and when his words are spoken awry.
Just as godly men proclaimed to intimately know God in Isaiah’s time in the verse above this still happens today. Men can loosely carry an outward appearance of having a personal relationship with God but inwardly are far removed from possessing any spiritual connection and quickening alive to Him in their heart.
