Though He Speaks of God, A Hypocrite is Distanced from God
Matthew 15:7-9 (KJB) Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
The Bible tells us in many places including both prophecy and precepts that what resides in a man’s heart flows from his mouth. It is true if a man is evil continually his mouth will also spew evil. If a man is godly in his heart, his speech will reflect the presence of God too. This biblical concept is especially important when considering the teaching a person chooses to listen to, for a man can be easily deceived with cleverly packaged false teaching.
God instantly knows when a hypocrite opens his mouth to speak, and a man of God can easily discern truth from any lies perpetuated by mankind. The preaching and teaching of a man may sound good, but it can stink spiritually speaking. If teaching reeks with the pungent aroma of sin and wickedness, rather than smell spiritually refreshing and fragrant with Truth character of God, distance yourself from hearing such hypocrisy.
A hypocrite is undoubtedly distanced from God by both his speech and actions, while a man of God is closely associated with both the character and truths of God. A heart close to God naturally emits the perfume of God into this world in both his speech and actions.
