Critical and Disobedient Insolence
Proverbs 30:17 (KJB) The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
Wow! There is some pertinent information in the spiritually insightful book of Proverbs. This verse perfectly describes the presence of many critical and disobedient hearts at work in this world. This biblical characterization of mocking certainly includes the prominent eye-rolling, a favorite activity of many disrespectful teenagers, who in fact, will be influential in leading this world in the next generation.
God has divinely recorded elsewhere in other scripture verses about children having proper respect for his or her parents. Eye rolling is certainly not included as an act of having respect for one’s parents. Nor is it conducive to fostering love and reverence for one’s parents or other important authority figures.
Perhaps, like I, you rolled your eyes a time or two at your own parents. Or other figures of authority in the past. It is important to take this verse and others which decree respect for our parents, to heart. It is never too late to reverse course and esteem the authority of our parents and others in positions of authority especially using Jesus Christ as an example in His reverence for God.
