A Child Ministering Before the Lord
1 Samuel 2:18-19 (KJB) But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod. 19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
“Samuel ministered before the Lord…”
This passage talks about a young child ministering to others about God. Samuel was a young man, likely older than a small child. He was led to stand in the pulpit and preach about God. Not only that be he was attired with a linen ephod showing that he was familiar with the traditions and practices of priests having grown up in his influencing years inside the tabernacle.
Too often today a young child is found to be influenced and entertained by video games. Or found on the couch watching television. Or busy staring at his phone. Little if any traditions and godly practices are being handed down to the next generation.
Therefore, today you would not often hear about a child with a desire in his heart to minister. In old-fashioned churches, there are still “preacher boys” who are moved by God to seek a life of a preacher. They follow after a mature preacher who will aid and encourage them in their study and decision to follow the will of God in their life to become a preacher.
The influence of godly serving men is perhaps not as present and the gospel does not seem to be passed down to many willing hearts like in Samuel’s day. However, any lack of willing young men to stand in the pulpit does not limit the power or presence of God at work in this world. He stands above and beyond the dark reach of god busily peddling his brand of dark preaching into eager ears of this world.
