Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth – BIBLE
Coming out – I am a Geek….
How many times do we as humans wish that life came with an instruction manual? Better yet as parents when our kids were growing up how often did we desire like our newest high tech gadget they shipped with some instructions?
I admit I am a geek way beyond what many of you know. Just to make this point for the techies who read this post let me provide a bit of background about being a geek. My wife and I purchased our first computer, an 8086 with 256k RAM and a single floppy drive, with the desire to play games and some other household functions. Once we brought the PC home, the next challenge was making it work which I have to admit was much more challenging than I had anticipated. What I discovered was the computer had instructions and defined procedures you had to understand and follow to make it work. I eventually purchased a book on how to use MS-DOS or Microsoft Disk Operating System. I used this book and for hours learned by instruction how to use MS-DOS to use the computer.
It wasn’t long before people began asking me for help to use their computers or to fix some problem they were having. For the sake of time, this led to working in the field of communications, selling, repairing and installing Novell NetWare and Artisoft Lantastic local area networks. Before long I was one of the first MCSE’s (Microsoft Certified System Engineer) in the state. Within a few years, I was a CCNA, CCDA and finally a CCNP. Now I have dozens of communications related certifications. In this ever-changing field, this led to eventually to installing VOIP networks to what is known as UCC, or Unified Communications software and hardware. Ten years later I accepted a job with the manufacturer designing VOIP systems, Unified Messaging, Unified Communications and Collaboration systems and Call Center applications.
I believe God provided an uneducated country boy a world class job in an exciting field, and it took some time for me to realize that this was all God and none of me. God used a computer instruction manual to set a direction for my career. God use’s the Bible as His instruction manual for our life.
When it comes to our lives and our children God has given us, an instruction manual called the BIBLE. Geeks love acronyms, so it is easy for me to think of the BIBLE as Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth. The Bible provides the answers to every question we have in life and in raising a family. Below is a list of just a few ways the Bible is such an amazing instruction manual.
The Bible provides instructions on how to live better lives:
Proverbs 6:23 (KJB) For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.
Matthew 4:4 (KJB) But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Job 22:22 (KJB) Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
The Bible provides instructions on how to obey God and not sin:
Psalm 40:7-8 (KJB) Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, 8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Psalm 37:31 (KJB) The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
Psalm 119:9-12 (KJB) BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 12 Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.
Romans 12:1-2 (KJB) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The Bible provides instruction on how to avoid false teachings:
Matthew 24:24-26 (KJB) For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
1 John 4:1 (KJB) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Peter 2:1-3 (KJB) But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
The Bible provides instruction on spending time with the LORD:
Proverbs 2:6-7 (KJB) For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJB) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Matthew 6:33 (KJB) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
The Bible provides instruction about sin:
Hebrews 4:12 (KJB) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Psalm 51:3-4 (KJB) For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
James 2:9 (KJB) But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
The Bible provides instruction about knowing more about Jesus:
John 14:6 (KJB) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 5:38-41 (KJB) And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. 39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. 41 I receive not honour from men.
John 17:3 (KJB) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
The Bible provides instruction about being encouraged:
Mark 10:27 (KJB) And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
Joshua 1:9 (KJB) Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Romans 15:4-5 (KJB) For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. 5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

The Bible provides instruction on life
God provided an MS-DOS manual for me and a career, but this did not answer the questions about life or bring peace. Have you noticed the wealthy and famous that have died or committed suicide because they were unable to find answers or peace? The Bible is the only place you will find the answers to life’s questions and contentment. You can not find answers or peace in money, notoriety, position or power.
A New Year is about to begin, and there has never been a better time to commit to yourself to read God’s Word. We invite you to read through the Bible in 2017 with us.
