A Living Sacrifice

Romans 12:1 (KJB) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Not only is a child of God looking unto Him (Hebrews 12:2), but a child of God has the very Spirit of God alive and kicking inside his heart.  His presence in us is why it is so important for every child of God to consider Him in all things.

This gives new meaning to the state of our flesh.  While our physical or fleshly body is but a tent or covering for the very presence of God a person must stop to consider the spiritual weight of this.  So we must wait a minute, pause, and hold onto this thought for a moment.

God is spiritually alive in you and at the same time present in Heaven sitting at the right-hand side of His Father.  Essentially, our body of flesh houses the Spirit of God at work in our life as we dwell on this earth.  Does knowing for sure that His presence is alive in your heart do anything to change your treatment and perception of your flesh?

Certainly, if an ancient biblical king, a popular sports figure, a well-known Christian missionary, or a Hollywood icon could come to live in your heart you would likely roll out the red carpet, clean the cobwebs, and make sure that your dwelling was immaculate.  Why then do many Christians allow God to reside in their heart in providing a ramshackle “lived in” covering, perhaps even repeatedly littered with the likes of repeated tattoos and ragged looking clothing.

If we are a living sacrifice for God who has the wonderful opportunity to house the very Spirit of God, shouldn’t we take this opportunity for being found acceptable unto God seriously both inside and out?  Certainly, a child of God is never perfect this side of eternity, however, each day he is being perfected both inward and outward.

If our outward house remains in a state of disrepair even when being continually inwardly influenced by God, then certainly our heart condition and spiritual pulse need a checkup.

Reasonable service for God includes being an empty vessel filled by God. Serving and savoring Him in this world includes allowing His presence to reside in your softened heart and to shine brightly in this world.  A child of God always aims to honor and glorify God in every part of his being while sojourning in this world.
