A Parallel Between Christ and Adam
Romans 5:17-18 (KJB) For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Perhaps these verses seem to be a spiritual tongue twister containing truth, hard to unravel and wrap around your heart and mind. What is at stake here is vital truth presented as an analogy between Christ and Adam. Grab your shovel, for we are about to dig deeper into God’s truth!
These verses set forth Adam as a type or picture of Christ. Both Adam and Jesus Christ died for sin. Adam died saving Eve from the presence of sin, and Jesus Christ died to save humanity from sin. Jesus Christ paved the way for eternal life through His grace-paved highway to eternity.
Condemnation for sin came through Adam, and eternal life was ushered in through Jesus Christ. This analogy arises from the Old and New Testament and relates to possessing fellowship with God forever.
