A Pathway of Persistent Wickedness
2 Kings 17:16-17 (KJB) And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. 17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God… The sins of Israel were many as they turned from God to sin. They turned to worshipping images, astrology, witchcraft, and human sacrifice. The Israelites desired to serve sin which infuriated God by their rush to commit grossly gregarious and willful acts of sin.
Not only did the Israelites plunge themselves deep into an abyss of wickedness and sin they drug their own children through the fire for the purpose of sacrificing to the god of Baal. They had no perceived value of God, themselves, or for the lives of their children.
“And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire…”is such a sad statement of the evil times and conceivably caused great anger to erupt with God for their great sin.
