A Pledge with God
I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? (Job 31:1 KJV)
Job was a sincere man of integrity.
Job realized that his eye gate was an integral opening which led directly into his soul.
Job knew that his eye gate was an opening that affected his entire being: body, soul, and spirit. This was not just a temporary issue but something that affects mankind on a permanent basis apart from the presence and working of the supernatural power of God.
Leaving our eyes without a “spiritual sentry” on guard allows the filth of the world to come flowing unattended into man’s soul.
Job understood that he had no excuse for looking upon a maid because he had the power and presence of God at work in every aspect of his life, including his eye gate.
Job had his eye gate, ear gate, and his heart sealed and secure in agreement with the ever presence of God. This gave Job no room for or reason to drift away from the plumb line God had set in place upon his life.
