A Sign Given
Luke 2:12 (KJB) And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
The babe, Jesus Christ, was to be wrapped and lying in a manger. This information was divinely given to the shepherds and was necessary for distinguishing the newborn Jesus Christ from any other infant. It is true, Jesus Christ born in the flesh, and to the naked eye, physically speaking, looked just like any other baby.
This vital message was received by the shepherds from an angel, and at the moment it was delivered to the shepherds, a host of angels was present; peering down from heaven. You see, this message was critical in locating Him for swaddling infants is common practice, but indeed, no other infant would be found lying in a manger.
A sign was given so the shepherds would know without a doubt the babe they would find in Bethlehem was that child.
