Always Want More
Ecclesiastes 5:10-11 (KJV) He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?
Silver never satisfies. Neither does the abundance of goods. King Solomon led by God, presents the truth about humanity’s natural appetite for more and more in these verses. There are many examples in God’s Word about the emptiness of the things found in this world and that nothing but the power and presence of God will satisfy.
In contrast, God satisfies humanity with Himself; nothing more is necessary for a child of God to find perfect peace and joy. Just like the truth presented in Psalm 23, God is undoubtedly everything a person needs for lasting happiness. Indeed, Mick Jagger sang about not finding satisfaction in this world. Even lost and wayward hearts comprehend that there is something better than what can be found in this world.
In this season meant for celebrating Christ, let us focus on Him and not worry about our circumstances and means, for God knows our state of affairs and what we need and desire as we sojourn in this world and for eternity.
A person wants more and more, but none of the things one can accumulate in this world will bring happiness and lasting peace. No matter how full your pockets, how full your tummy, a person at home in this world desires more. A sincere child of God finds satisfaction in whatever state he is, wherever he is, and for whatever is given him.
