An Analogy of a Perpetual Marriage Union

Romans 7:4 (KJB) Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Paul is speaking to an audience of Jewish hearts. He is using an analogy of a marriage union to illustrate to them of a one on one or personal union with God.  This kind of relationship produces spiritual fruit and lasts forever with both Jewish and Gentile hearts.

It is true, repeatedly in God’s Word a perpetual personal relationship with Christ is described as a marriage or wedding to Christ.  When you read in the Bible of instances of marriage to Christ you can think ahead to the day of the return of Christ to this earth.  It is the day God fulfills His promise to return for His saints.

Yes, one day He promises to return for His bride or His people who are His spiritual family.  In fact, every sincere child of God is waiting eagerly for Jesus Christ’s return to this earth and for this supernatural wedding ceremony to commence.

When a person is married to another, rather than God, as is recorded in this verse, it points to a person aligning himself with the god of this world rather than uniting with God through His Son Jesus Christ.  It is a “pseudo wedding” or an earth-based communion with the spirit of wickedness having no eternal meaning or weight and will not last forever.

On the other hand, a marriage made in heaven is one that includes Jesus Christ.  It is a personal relationship with God through His Son.  It is a marriage that is unending for there is no such thing as divorcing God.  Once aligned with Him this spiritual heart relationship lasts forever.  Not only is a child of God aligned with Him as they sojourn on this earth but melded together forever.  When Christ returns to this earth to claim His bride or a regenerated soul returns to God through his or her physical death, a supernatural wedding union is complete.

Are you, the bride, aligned with the Groom, who is Jesus Christ in a heavenly marriage union that will last forever?  Only this God-based marriage relationship is perpetually producing bountiful fruit to honor and glorify God.  Otherwise, every lost soul not married to God will face spiritual death forever.
