An Ostentatious Offering
Mark 12:41 (KJB) And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
Jesus took time out of his busy day as He stood near the entrance to the temple to take in the pretentious manner which some of the rich people tossed money in for the collection. To Him, perhaps this was a showy act demonstrating the hypocrisy at work in their hearts.
This kind of flashy money show takes place inside some churches today. Sadly, doing so is not for the benefit of God’s church, but for making men look good and feel right about the offering they are tossing in the till. However, this is not the state of heart that God expects of a professing child of God. In fact, doing so is likely quite hideous to God.
A man of God should keep in the forefront of his mind that God does not need his money. It is true, God’s benefits and blessing do not require the world’s monetary funds. However, it is necessary for a child of God to have a godly giving nature at work in his heart and mind for God desires to have all of him (Galatians 2:20).
