Are You Boxed In?
And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) (2 Peter 2:7-8 KJV)
Lot lived in a land in which he should not have willingly inhabited. The evil stench from this city reached God’s nostrils in heaven. God was displeased with these untoward circumstances surrounding Lot. Lot had chosen to live in a prodigal “pig pen” rather than existing in close daily fellowship with God.
Maybe your “flavor” of sin is different than Lot’s. However, man cannot ever please God on his own. Man must remain in an active, spiritually healthy relationship with God. Actively applying God’s truths and “spiritual whitewash” of His Word each day or the relationship becomes hindered, stale, and eventually spiritually stagnant.
Despite the circumstances happening around Lot, God called him a righteous man. Lot had a righteousness problem and was not able to remove himself from these dark circumstances. His heart was continually vexed (not possessed) by the darkness surrounding him. Lot did not like living in this city and was spiritually provoked and uncomfortable. He knew his presence was wickedly wrong but could not break himself free from the sin that surrounded him upon every corner. Lot was boxed in needing God’s mercy to work in the horrendous state of affairs at work in His life.
Are you also boxed in too? Lot represents the struggling Christian today who tries in vain to remove himself from great sin surrounding him on all sides. It is God who has to bring us to the point where we understand it takes the supernatural power of God to remove sin from our lives.
