Avoid Foolish and Unlearned Questions
2 Timothy 2:22-23 (KJB) Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
The Word of God gives us valuable insight and direction as we walk in this world. It also gives us places and actions to avoid. That is what is presented in these above verses, a call to feast on things of God in faith including charity and peace with purity in heart and to avoid foolish questions for they lead to conflict.
There is a great need for every child of God to study His Word beyond skimming just the surface. It is important to dig deep and study hard. Certainly, you understand that God does not desire for His spiritual children to get in a pissing match with other professing Christians, especially over trivial matters having no bearing on eternity. However, God does desire that His spiritual family is able to give an answer about the hope that lies within us.
Sometimes a person can profess to be a biblical scholar but know little about applicable truths concerning God. You see, it is important to realize that the Word of God can be rightly divided (2 Timothy 2:15), meaning there are absolutes given of God easily found in His Word. There should be no knock down drag out fights between brothers and sisters in Christ concerning sound doctrine for God has clearly spelled it out for our personal learning and application.
There is nothing left to discover concerning the righteous and holy character of God and the spiritual direction He desires for every obedient soul. Does this mean that a man can open His Bible to gain access answers to his every question concerning God? No, the truth is God gives us proper direction for walking as we sojourn on this earth. From our limited vantage point many things we must accept through faith for we cannot see all answers and evidence from earth but one day we will clearly see all things.
Therefore, unfettered faith is an important part of walking with God. Even when we cannot touch or see all answers immediately before us, we understand that God has every answer, but some will be evident upon our arrival into eternity.
In the meantime, while we reside on this earth, we are to avoid foolish questions and avoid causing strife simply by placing trust in God for any answers awaiting us in eternity.
Questions about God are good and are a great way to grow and mature in truths of God. However, God does not a person to strive against one another from our limited vantage point on this earth. It is unwise to dig up foolish questions bearing no eternal weight for God already the future figured out.
