Be Concerned About Your Impact On Others
1 Corinthians 10:23 (KJV) All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
The discussion in this scripture came about concerning eating meat in the previous chapter of 1st Corinthians. However, as the Apostle Paul continued to minister to this Corinthian church, he illustrated that they must be concerned about how their individual and collective choices affect others about them.
Knowing this makes every choice more weighty. We must ask ourselves how it affects our standing with Christ, our life, and the lives of others. Does it hinder another’s walk? Is it a healthy habit or a nasty habit, to ourselves and others about us? If a choice sits right with God, then all the other questions are answered, too, for God always wants His best for us.
God desires that we honor and glorify Him, edify others, and continue to walk closely with Him. Good choices should meet all three of these criteria. However, you can be confident that bad decisions will negatively impact God, self, and others, while godly choices will harm no one, including God.
