Beautiful Old Christmas Hymns
Luke 2:11 (KJB) For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Silent Night, Holy Night… We all are familiar with this song. Yet, none of these words in this song, or others, can come close to describing the beautiful scene witnessed by a few individuals and animals when Jesus lay in the manger that first Christmas morning.
If you are like me, when I think of Christmas, and the real meaning, I cannot help but to think of popular old fashioned Christmas Hymns such as God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Angels on High, Hark the Herold Angels Sing, Away in a Manger, and many others which have beautiful words and melodies indeed.
However, no music can reach the heart with this message, like reading the inspired scripture of God’s Word. There is prophecy about the imminent birth of a King in the Old Testament with verses giving detail about the actual event taking place among animals in a stable. All such scripture is essential for our reading and study in God’s Word.
Though music, especially ancient hymns, give a wonderful the account of History captured and recorded in God’s Word. they cannot stir the heart and the meaning of the season every day throughout the years as does God’s infallible Word.
